GOP states embrace DOGE — but pursue far fewer cuts than Elon Musk

News

More than a dozen states have moved to adopt DOGE-style tactics but have shied from setting concrete goals that the public could use to track their success.

Channeling Elon Musk, Republicans are vowing to bring the billionaire’s federal cost-cutting tactics to more than a dozen state governments and are borrowing branding from his Department of Government Efficiency.

In North Carolina, Republicans used their DOGE committee to grill appointees of Gov. Josh Stein (D) about diversity programs. GOP lawmakers in Kansas and Missouri set up online portals where residents can report waste and submit efficiency ideas. Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) announced she will use artificial intelligence or other technology to streamline government.
